“The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named is not the eternal name
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of myriad things. Thus, constantly free of desire. One observes its wonders. Constantly filled with desire One observes its manifestations . These two emerge together but differ in name
The unity is said to be the mystery . Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders.”
I have had 3 main teachers in my taiji journey, all teaching variations of Yang style taiji .
Each would comment or emphasis on different aspects according to the line of taiji or their unique skill sets. It would be 20 years of hard practice before my path would lead me to Master Zhang, my final and last taiji teacher.
In asking him about other taiji styles Chen, Wu, Sun, ect. he said something that really stuck with me “there is only one taiji”
It would only be very recently that this understanding made itself known within myself. In China, and Taiwan, I have had people comment on my practice which looking from the outside could be called a variation of “Yang style” and yet seems to be different due to the influence by Master Zhang, from most other family style taiji practices.
I do not name it, calling it
expressing the freedom he helped me to find within, reflected without.
The end is the beginning.
